Ingredients
4 servings
1 tablespoonsesame oil
2garlic cloves
crushed
fresh root ginger
3 cm, 1 1/4 inch, peeled and grated 2 x 400 g, drained
1 teaspoonchinese five spice
2 tablespoonssoy sauce
3 tablespoonshoisin sauce
plus extra for brushing and serving
1 teaspoonmirin
8Chinese pancakes
0.5cucumber
cut into long, thin strips
spring onions
cut into long, thin strips
black and white sesame seeds
2cans jackfruit
Instructions
Step 1
Heat the sesame oil in a frying pan, and add the garlic and ginger. Fry over a medium-low heat for a few minutes until softened and fragrant.
Step 2
Transfer the mixture to the slow cooker, add the jackfruit, five spice, soy sauce, hoisin sauce and mirin and mix together. Cover with the lid and cook on high for 2 hours.
Step 3
Preheat the grill. Carefully remove the jackfruit from the slow cooker and spread out on a baking tray. Brush with more hoisin sauce, then place under the grill for 5 minutes until caramelized and browned on the edges.
Step 4
Serve with Chinese pancakes, strips of cucumber and spring onions, some extra hoisin sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
