Instructions

Step 1
Mix together the yeast, water and sugar in a large bowl and leave around 10 minutes
Step 2
Sift flour and salt into the water and yeast mixture along with canola oil. Combine into a rough dough and knead until smooth. Add a little more canola oil into another large mixing bowl and add the dough, turning to coat.
Step 3
Cover with cling wrap and leave until doubled in size
Step 4
Once doubled turn out onto bench and knock it down and flatten out. Sprinkle on the baking powder and incorporate by kneading. Place back into the bowl, cover and leave for another 30 minutes.
Step 5
Portion dough into 12 balls. Roll out with a rolling pin to a length that is twice the width about 5mm thick. Brush half the flattened oval with canola oil and fold in half length ways.
Step 6
Add backing paper to a steamer basket and prick to form small holes. Place the folded buns on the paper leaving spaces in between. Steam over boiling water for 6 - 8 minutes.
Step 7
Add your favourite fillings and enjoy!
