Ingredients

8 ozground beef
ground pork, or bulk pork sausage

½ cupcarrot
finely chopped

⅓ cupchopped onion

1clove garlic
minced

14.5 ozcan petite diced tomatoes

1 cupwater

6 ozcan tomato paste

½ cupham
diced fully cooked, or crumbled, crisp-cooked bacon

2 tspsugar

2 tspdried Italian seasoning
crushed

½ tsppepper

0.5 x 27.5 ozfrozen cheese-filled ravioli
package, or one 15 or 16 oz package frozen cheese-filled tortellini

1 cupshredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
Step 1
For meat sauce, in a large skillet cook ground meat, carrots, onion, and garlic till meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain fat.
Step 2
Stir in undrained tomatoes, water, tomato paste, ham or bacon, sugar, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3
Spoon one-third of the meat sauce into a 2 quart square baking dish. Arrange frozen ravioli or tortellini atop the meat sauce. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Top with the remaining meat sauce.
Step 4
Bake, covered, in a 350F oven for 40 to 45 minutes or till pasta is tender. Uncover and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake about 5 minutes more or till cheese melts.
