Step 1
1. Cook the pasta Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne until al dente (around 8–10 minutes), then drain and set aside. 2. Prepare the sauce In a pan, heat olive oil or butter on medium heat. (Optional) Sauté garlic for 30 seconds if using. Add the ham or smoked salmon and cook briefly (just to heat it up, not brown it). 3. Add the creamy pesto mix Pour in the heavy cream and stir. Add the pesto and mix until fully combined. Let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes to thicken slightly. Season with black pepper and a pinch of salt (go easy if using smoked salmon, it's already salty). 4. Combine Add the cooked penne to the pan and toss well to coat all the pasta. 5. Serve it up! Optional: sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or fresh basil. Eat immediately while it's creamy and hot.
