Instructions
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix the warm water, warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir lightly and let it sit for about 10 minutes, until the mixture becomes frothy.
Step 2
Add the egg and oil to the yeast mixture. Whisk until everything is well combined.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or using a stand mixer with a dough hook.
Step 4
Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour (but don’t overdo it).
Step 5
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 6
Punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and flatten slightly to form a bun shape.
Step 7
Place the buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them. Cover and let them rise again for about 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
Step 8
While the buns are rising, preheat your oven to 400°F
Step 9
Brush the tops with a little milk or beaten yellow egg (for shine), then bake for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown.
Step 10
Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
