¼ cupvegetable oil
1 cuponion
minced
½ cupgreen pepper
minced
1jalapeño pepper
seeded and minced
kosher salt
black pepper
2 tablespoonsminced garlic
1 x 28 ouncescan tomato sauce
2 cupsketchup
preferably
1 cupwater
¾ cupworcestershire sauce
½ cupcider vinegar
½ cuplemon juice
½ cupmolasses
½ cupcayenne pepper sauce
½ cupspicy brown mustard
¾ cupdark brown sugar
packed
1 tablespoonchili powder
2 teaspoonscoarsely ground black pepper
½ teaspoonground allspice
1 tablespoonliquid smoke

Instructions
Step 1
Pour the oil into a large saucepan and set over medium-high heat.
Step 2
Toss in the onions; stir and cook until onions are translucent.
Step 3
Add green pepper and jalapeño; cook until softened.
Step 4
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Step 5
Add minced garlic; cook for 1 more minute.
Step 6
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, and water.
Step 7
Mix in Worcestershire sauce, cider vinegar, lemon juice, molasses, cayenne pepper sauce, and mustard.
Step 8
Add dark brown sugar, chili powder, black pepper, and allspice.
Step 9
Add Liquid Smoke if using.
Step 10
Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
