For the Chili
1 poundlean ground turkey
2 clovesgarlic

½ cupyellow onion

1 x 15 ouncecan tomato sauce
1 x 14.5 ouncecan diced tomato
1 x 15 ouncecan kidney beans
drained, rinsed
1 x 15 ouncecan black beans
drained, rinsed
1 Tbspchili powder
2 tspcumin
½ tspBlack Pepper
½ tspsalt
2 tspgarlic powder
1 tspbrown sugar
For Cornbread Topper
Instructions
For Stovetop Chili
Step 1
Add the meat to a large pot or dutch oven. As the turkey is cooking, add the chopped onion and peppers to cook and soften.
Step 2
Once the meat is cooked and the onion and peppers are softened, drain any excess moisture. Add the garlic and allow it to cook for an additional 30 seconds.
Step 3
Add all the other ingredients. Bring the chili to a simmer and allow to cook for about 10-15 minutes.
For Crockpot Chili
Step 4
Add the lean ground turkey, onion, and peppers to a medium size skillet. Cook over medium heat until the onion and peppers are soft and the turkey is completely cooked. Add the garlic and cook an additional 30 seconds.
Step 5
Remove from heat and add to the crockpot.
Step 6
Add in all the other ingredients, stir to combine. Cook over low heat for 4-6 hours.
For the Cornbread Topper
Step 7
Pre-heat oven to 400°F.
Step 8
Throroughly melt butter in the baking dish. Then drizzle honey evenly over the melted butter, without mixing or stirring. Set aside.
Step 9
Prepare Jiffy mix according to package directions.
Step 10
Pour batter evenly over the honey butter layer, but avoid stirring.
Step 11
Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 12
Let cool slightly before cutting and applying to top of chili.
