1 Tbspvegan butter
1yellow onion

1 Tbspcoconut sugar
1 Tbspbalsamic vinegar
2cloves garlic
minced
2 teaspoonsfresh thyme
1 Tbspcrushed red pepper
Plant-based Herbed Butter Sauce
Instructions
Caramelized Onions Instructions
Step 1
Cut the large yellow onion into thick slices.
Step 2
Over medium-low heat, melt the plant-based butter in a thick-bottomed stainless steel or cast iron pan. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10 minutes to soften. Add a pinch of salt and the sugar, then reduce the heat and continue to cook the onions for 30 minutes to one hour until they are deep amber in color and caramelized. Stir them often enough so that they don’t burn, but not so much that they won’t brown.
Step 3
Finish off with the balsamic vinegar, thyme, and garlic. Cook for an additional 3 minutes and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Step 5
Combine the Beyond Beef®, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a 9×13-inch (23×33-cm) rimmed baking dish, mixing thoroughly, then press into a flat, even layer.
Step 6
Bake for 20 minutes. Drain the liquid and set the cooked Beyond Beef® aside.
Step 7
Slice the rolls in half lengthwise. Line a cookie tray with parchment paper. Place the bottom half of the rolls down on the parchment paper. Place the cooked Beyond Beef on the rolls, followed by slices of smoked gouda cheese, caramelized onions and the top half of the rolls.
Step 8
In a small bowl combine the melted plant-based butter, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, crushed red pepper and 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley. Stir until well mixed.
Step 9
Brush the vegan herbed butter sauce on the rolls. Bake in preheated oven for about 10-15 more minutes or until the rolls are toasted and the cheese is melted. (Tent with foil if browning too quickly)
