Swedish Tea Ring
Recipe makes 2 loaves (30 minutes) or 2 coffee rings (19 minutes) or 2 9x12 buns or 3 dozen butterhorns.

Ingredients

For the Dough
1 cupmilk
½ cupshortening
½ cupsugar
1 tspsalt
1 packetyeast
½ cupwater
warm, to jump start the yeast
3eggs
beaten
600gflour
or more - just keep adding until the dough is the right consistency

Instructions
Step 1
Heat the milk to melt the shortening (on stove or microwave). Then add the sugar and salt.
Step 2
Jump start the yeast by putting it in 1/2 cup warm water with a pinch of sugar.
Step 3
Cool milk/shortening/sugar/salt to lukewarm and then add yeast/water/sugar. (Can also add yeast directly to milk once cool, but make sure to add ½ cup water)
Step 4
Add the eggs to the mixture and beat. (You can also add eggs before adding the yeast to help cool down the milk mixture)
Step 5
Add flour with a sifter (if you have one) and mix in to a smooth soft dough.
Step 6
Knead lightly on a floured surface. Should form a ball and be slightly sticky.
Step 7
Place dough in a covered bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approx. 70-90 minutes).
Step 8
Form into buns/butterhorns/coffee rings/loaves. (See below for details)
For Tea Ring
Step 9
Roll out dough into a rectangle.
Step 10
Spread butter over the dough leaving 1/2 inch border around edges.
Step 11
Dust with cinnamon. Sprinkle lots of raisins and/or apples.
Step 12
Roll lengthwise and form into ring. Using my scissors, make slits the on top, cutting most of the way through.
Step 13
Place into greased pan.
Step 14
Let rise again until about double. (20 minutes)

Bake at 350. (Approx 19 minutes for tea ring)
For the Topping
Step 16
Allow tea ring to cool completely. Then combine powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla.
Step 17
Drizzle topping back and forth over tea ring.
For Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Step 18
Roll out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle 1/2 inch thick.
Step 19
Moisten the dough with 2 tablespoons milk and rub all over the dough with your hands.
Step 20
Mix together 1 cup of sugar and 3 tablespoons cinnamon and sprinkle mixture evenly on top of the moistened dough. Spread 1 cup of raisins.
Step 21
Roll up tightly (the long way).
Step 22
The roll should be about 3 inches in diameter.

Cut in half and tuck under ends and pinch bottom together.
Step 24
Place loaves into well greased (you can use Crisco or butter for this) 9 x 5 inch pans and lightly grease tops of loaves.

Let rise in warm place, uncovered, again for about an hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until loaves are lightly browned and sound hollow when tapped.

Remove from oven and let cool on rack.

Take melted butter and spread over tops of loaves.

After about 20 minutes, lay loaves on their sides and remove from pans.

Allow to cool before slicing.
