Spicy Steamed Mussels

I love mussels as an appetizer especially with some crusty bread. You could certainly turn this dish into an entree by serving it over pasta. I used Chilau’s flavor base to build my sauce and it was so delicious with these mussels.

Instructions

Step 1
1. In a large Dutch pot on medium high heat, sauté diced shallots until fragrant. Add garlic and sauté for two minutes and then add the peppers and green onions.

2. Deglaze the pan with the white wine and simmer for about two minutes.
Step 3
3. Add two cups of crushed tomatoes and 1 cup of Chilau’s flavor base and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Step 4
4. Add cleaned mussels and toss them in the sauce and cover with the lid until all the mussels have opened.
Step 5
5. Garnish with fresh lemon wedges, fresh parsley and crusty pesto garlic bread.
