Step 1
Sauté the garlic in oil for 1-2 mins over low heat or until fragrant.

neutral oil1 tsp

Add in the rest of the sauce ingredients.

sesame oil1 tsp
brown sugar1 tsp
rice syrup1 Tbsp
soy sauce½ Tbsp

Cook on medium low heat for 5-7 minutes or until the sauce has thickened a little bit.

Remove from heat and let it cool a bit. It will become thicker as it cools.

If using frozen or refrigerated rice cakes, boil them until they’re soft first.

If using fresh rice cakes, simply skewer them.

You can make sausage rice cake skewers by alternating pieces of rice cakes and sausage.

You can also make cheese and rice cake skewers by alternating them. Cut your cheese sticks to match the size of the rice cakes and alternate them.

Fry both sides of the skewers for 1-2 minutes over medium low heat in a little bit of oil until the tteok is slightly toasted.

Glaze both sides of the skewer with sauce.

Cook each side for 1-2 minutes or until the sauce has become slightly caramelized and sticky.
Step 12
Garnish with sesame seeds and enjoy!
