Instructions

Step 1
1. Short beans on counter, getting rid of funky ones. Rinse in collander and add to slow cooker.
Step 2
Cover beans with water, 2-3 inches above, depending on how much you like the juices.
Step 3
As slices of bacon, whole or cut up, if you like. Add garlic powder and pepper. Add onion as a wedge or chunked. Add red Chile powder. Don't salt until the end, as adding now will affect cooking time.
Step 4
Cook beans in slow cooker on High for 4 hours, then Low for about an hour and a half.
Step 5
Salt beans AFTER they are cooked, as it lengthens the cooking time if you add salt while they are cooking.
