Instructions

Step 1
1. Cook down onions and bell peppers on medium-high heat until they soften and reduce, about 20 minutes. Ysabel likes to caramelize them a little for the sweetness. 2. Cook the meat. 3. Add in the paprika, chili powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper to the onions and peppers. Mix. 4. Add the meat and canned tomatoes to the mixture. Mix again, lower the heat, and let it cook until it simmers. Optional: You can fold some of the feta into the base. 5. When you're ready to eat, set the heat to medium (or lower, if using less eggs), make a little divot in the base with a spoon, and crack an egg into it. If cracking all 4-5 eggs, space them out. Crumble the feta on top, cover the base with a lid, and cook until egg achieves desired doneness. 6. Warm the pita bread in the meantime. 7. When done, remove the shakshuka and pita from the heat. You can top with some sliced avocados, yogurt, or serve roasted veggies on the side. (Broccoli, seasoned with olive oil, salt, and pepper, roasted for ~15 minutes at 400 degrees).
