Baked Apples

Ingredients

6baking apples
large
¾ cupfruit and nuts
currants, nuts, lemon rind, et cetera
½ cupdark brown sugar
packed
½ cupwater
1 tablespoonbutter
½ teaspooncinnamon
½ teaspoonnutmeg
whipped cream
to serve
Instructions
Step 1
Core the apples and place in a baking dish large enough to accommodate the apples without them touching.
Step 2
Fill the apples with the fruit and nut mixture.
Step 3
In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, water, butter, and spices.
Step 4
Bring to a boil and pour sugar mixture around apples.
Step 5
Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Step 6
Baste occasionally with the sugar mixture; they will be done when they are fluffy and slightly burst.
Step 7
Serve with whipped cream.
