Instructions

Step 1
Roast kali jeera seeds on a non stick fry pan over medium heat for couple minutes. Be sure to not burn them as it will taste bitter. Remove and set aside.
Step 2
On the same pan, drizzle little oil and roast dry red chilli. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until they are slightly burnt on all sides. Remove and set aside.
Step 3
Roast sliced onions on the same pan. Drizzle some oil and cook for 2-3 minutes, until they are slightly coloured on all sides.
Step 4
To make bhorta, you can use a blender, pester and morta or even a sheel pata. It's really down to what you feel is convenient and easy to use! All the elements of the dish is soft and can be used in either of the appliances.
Step 5
Grind the dry red chilli with salt to taste, add roasted onions and roasted kali jeera seeds. Add mustard oil and continue to mash until everything is thoroughly mixed.
Step 6
Serve with hot plain white rice. Enjoy!
