Prep:5minCook:25min
Onigiri, also known as omusubi, nigirimeshi, or rice ball, is a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylindrical shapes and wrapped in nori (seaweed strip).
This one contains a recipe for shrimp but feel free to substitute with any meat as well as make any other adjustments, this shows you the very basics of how to make Onigiri!

Instructions
Step 1
Add the rice to a pot and rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear; then pour in enough water to cover the rice about half an inch. Cook the rice.
Step 2
Pour the vinegar over the cooked rice. Add the salt and sugar, and stir (feel free to alter this with less sugar and salt as desired). Place to the side for now.
Step 3
Season the shrimp to your desired taste. (I like to use cayenne and red pepper to give it more of a kick).
Step 4
Rip up the shrimp so that you have shreds of it, you can hold it down and use a fork to rip up the shrimp.
Step 5
In a separate bowl from your rice, combine the shrimp shreds and the mayonnaise, mixing thoroughly. (Feel free to alter and add more mayonnaise. At this point, I add in the creamy sriracha for taste but it's optional).
Step 6
Have a plate ready. From here you're going to wet your hands and form four cakes of rice. Spread a flat layer of the shrimp mixture over each and then cover with another flat cake of rice. Shape the filled rice into balls and then mold the corners to form triangles.
Step 7
Adjust how long you want your nori strips to be. Moisten the texture side and place onto the rice triangles, so that the smooth side is facing out. Do this to each.
