Rigatoni and Slightly Spicy Meat Sauce

4 steps
Prep:2minCook:20min
A recipe I found online a while back and have been adding to and adjusting ever since. The red pepper flakes gives the marinara sauce a very subtle spicy kick. Don't like spicy? Skip the red pepper flakes.

Instructions

Step 1
Heat pan to medium, add ground beef, red pepper flakes, and sautee, breaking it up with a spatula until no longer pink (~5 minutes). Drain excess fat. Don't worry if the red pepper flakes drain along with the fat, most of the spicy flavor will be 'infused' with the meat.
Step 2
Add chopped onion, salt, ground cumin, pepper, italian seasoning, and sautee until onions are soft.
Step 3
Add garlic and sautee another 1-2 minutes then pour in marinara sauce, water and sugar. Stir together before covering and simmer over low heat 20 minutes.
Step 4
Cook pasta in salted water to desired doneness according to package instructions then drain. Combine sauce to pasta, stir, and serve.
