½ cupwhite urad

2 cupsWhole red chillies

For roasting
Instructions
Step 1
Add oil to pan (don't heat it) and add chana dal for roasting

On the side, grind whole red chillies and keep them aside. You can dry roast the chillies but it leads to fumes so it is optional.

Step 3
Add urad dal halfway thru the roasting of the chana dal. Watch that the urad dal doesn't become brown, it should become golden. Keep the pan at medium heat only.

Step 4
Switch off the flame and place the roasted dals in a plate to cool down.
Step 5
Add peanuts to the pan next for roasting and add little more sesame oil.

Add cashews halfway thru peanut roasting, unless cashews are pre roasted.
Step 7
Add sesame seeds to the pan to roast.
Step 8
Add shredded coconut. We used thawed frozen shredded coconut.
Step 9
Place all roasted ingredients in a plate.
