OMURICE (Japanese Rice Omelette)

8 steps
Prep:1hCook:30min
Omurice is a classic Japanese dish. The rice is flavored with tomato and wrapped around a soft omelette. You can also add an omurice sauce (demi-glace sauce recipe) on the top for extra delicious flavor! There are many different types to make the egg omelette. The most famous one is the scrambled egg version. This recipe is more simple! The egg omelette is slowly cooked and very thin. Then the rice is wrapped inside. Both are delicious versions and have great flavor!

Instructions

Step 1
Heat pan to medium heat and once hot, add 2 tbs oil. Add minced ¼ onion and ½ tablespoon garlic. Next, add diced carrots and ¼ cup of peas. Saute for 1 minute.
Step 2
Next, add 2 cups of cooked rice (leftover rice works best!) to the pan and break apart the rice. Once the rice looks cooked and broken apart, you can add seasoning!
Step 3
Add 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of ketchup and 1 teaspoon sugar and mix well. You can also add cooked protein (I added chicken) if you like! There’s not a huge change of flavor if you don’t add any protein ◡̈ Set fried rice aside.
Step 4
Whip 3 eggs with 1 tablespoon milk, ¼ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon chicken bouillon until there’s no egg white visible. This makes the omelette really smooth and pretty!
Step 5
Heat non-stick pan on low heat. Then add slice of butter. Gently add the eggs in the pan until the pan is covered.
Step 6
Add a lid on the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the egg is cooked through.
Step 7
To assemble, add 1 cup of the fried rice to the omelette. Fold the sides and gently turn over.
Step 8
Top with ketchup or demi-glace sauce! Hope you enjoy!
