Ingredients

For the marinara sauce
2 Tbspolive oil
½ cuponion
medium, chopped
3garlic cloves
finely minced
3 ½ cupcrushed tomatoes
½ tspdried oregano
½ tspsea salt
¼ tspblack pepper freshly ground
1 Tbspfresh basil
or parsley, finely minced, plus more to garnish
For the filling
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 190 C. Cook shells in salted water according to package instructions (stirring several times to keep the pasta from sticking to the pot), then drain and fill pot with cold water to stop the cooking process and keep shells from sticking to each other.
For the marinara sauce
Step 2
Place a saucepan over medium heat and add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add chopped onion stirring often until soft and golden (about 5 min). Add minced garlic and stir 1 min.
Step 3
Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper. Bring to a light boil then reduce heat and simmer partially covered for 15 minutes.
Step 4
Finally, stir in fresh basil then turn off the heat.
