Instructions
Step 1
Lightly grease and line the bread pan with baking parchment, if specified in the manual.
Step 2
* Put the butter in a large saucepan with the sugar, molasses or treacle, golden syrup and stem ginger. Gently heat until the butter has melted, stirring occasionally.
Step 3
* Remove the pan from the heat, stir, then sift over the flour and spices. Stir until mixed together.
Step 4
* Whisk the eggs and milk together. Add to the melted mixture and stir together until smooth.
Step 5
* Pour the mixture into the bread pan. Fit the pan into the breadmaker and set to the bake only programme. Select 1 hour on the timer. Press start.
Step 6
* Check that the cake is cooked by gently pressing the surface with your fingers; it should feel just firm. If necessary, re-set the timer and cook for a few more minutes.
Step 7
* Remove the pan from the machine and leave to stand for 5 minutes, then carefully turn out on to a wire rack and leave to cool.
