Step 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Step 2
Warm olive oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add garlic and red pepper flakes; cook gently until fragrant.

Add crushed San Marzano tomatoes and a pinch of salt. Simmer uncovered 12-15 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 4
Cook penne until just under al dente. Reserve 2 cup pasta water.
Step 5
Gently fold tuna into sauce. Warm through.
Step 6
Add pasta and a splash of pasta water; toss to coat.
Step 7
Remove from heat. Add lemon zest, a small squeeze of lemon juice, and black pepper. Adjust seasoning.
Step 8
Finish with herbs and olive oil.
