2 tablespoonswine
shaoshing

2 tablespoonschinese black vinegar

1 ½ teaspoonsbrown sugar

2 tablespoonssoy sauce

½ teaspoonblack pepper

3star anise

0.5 poundfresh shiitake mushrooms
sliced

1 tablespooncornstarch

2 tablespoonswater

0.5 headNapa cabbage
cored and sliced crosswise into 2 inch wide pieces

Instructions
Step 1
Rub the chicken with the five spice powder and salt. In a Dutch oven heat 2 tablespoons Oil over medium high heat. Add the chicken and sear five minutes per side until lightly browned. Remove the chicken.
Step 2
In the same pot over medium heat, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Add the garlic, ginger and shallot. Sauté 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the broth, wine, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce and pepper. Bring to a simmer and add the star anise. Return the chicken to the pot, cover and simmer gently 30 minutes.
Step 3
Add the mushrooms and corn starch mixture. Re-cover and cook 10 minutes until thickened slightly. Add the cabbage and cook five minutes until wilted.
Step 4
Remove from the heat and garnish with the green onions.
