Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the slow cooker, if necessary, or according to the manufacturers instructions.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a heavy-based frying pan. Add the onions and cook over the low heat, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes until softened. Add the garlic, bacon and sausages and cook, stirring and turning the sausages occasionally, for a further 5 minutes.

Step 3
Using the slotted spoon, transfer the mixture from the frying pan to the slow cooker. Add the beans, parsley and beef stock. Then cover and cook on low for 6 hours

Step 4
Preheat the grill to high, just before serving, lightly toast the bread under the grill. Divide the grated cheese between the toast slices and place under the grill until just melted.
Step 5
Ladle the stew onto warmed plates, too each portion with the cheese-toast and serve.
