Blackberry Mango Oatmeal

5 steps
Prep:5minCook:7min
This odd yet delicious combo of blackberry and mango goes perfectly with some oatmeal. Enjoy as a nutritious breakfast or a post-workout meal. The protein powder and vanilla greek yogurt are optional, but I think that it adds some extra nutrients and flavor to the oats. PS: The calorie count on the calculator is wrong. the total amount of calories in this bowl of oatmeal is around 550-570 if you use milk and the optional ingredients and around 470-490 if you use water and the optional ingredients. Without the optional ingredients, the calories add up to 340-360 if you use milk, and 260-280 if you use water.

Instructions

Step 1
Simmer 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of old-fashioned oats on low heat. Let the oats sit for around 5 minutes, but continue to stir occasionally.
Step 2
Once the oats have simmered for 5 minutes, raise the heat to medium. Cook for around 1 minute. The oats should be about done when the oats begin to rise and bubble.
Step 3
After the oats have cooked for a minute on medium heat, add half of the blackberries to the oats. Break up the blackberries using your spoon so that the oats start absorbing a purple shade. Cook for another minute and then remove from heat.
Step 4
Pour the oatmeal into a bowl to serve. Add 1 scoop of protein powder (optional) and stir until the oats have absorbed the powder entirely. Afterwards, add the rest of the blackberries and 1/2 cup of mangoes. Mix until the mangos and blackberries have submerged into the oatmeal.
Step 5
Top with half of an ounce of almonds (around 14 nuts) and 150g of vanilla greek yogurt (optional). Serve and enjoy this refreshing and nutritious bowl of oatmeal.
