Instructions

Step 1
In a large, oven safe Dutch oven brown beef. Add onion, bell pepper, garlic, basil, fennel seed, and red pepper. Stir frequently until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Around 20 minutes.
Step 2
Add sugar, salt, and tomatoes, crushing tomatoes by hand or with spoon. Mix together and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes.
Step 3
Preheat oven to 350°. Wash spinach and place in kettle. Cook until just wilted. About 4-6 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
Step 4
Cook pasta in heavily salted water to very al dente, about 3-4 minutes short of package instructions. Drain.
Step 5
Add pasta and spinach into tomato beef sauce and mix well. Top with shredded cheese. Bake, uncovered, for about 25-30 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. Let dish cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
