Instructions
Step 1
1. Mix the shrimp pieces with salt and turmeric
Step 2
2. Transfer the shrimp to a frying pan with a bit of cooking oil for

3. Once the shrimps are cooked, remove from the pan
Step 4
4. Stir in the shah jeera, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, peppercorn, and sliced onion
Step 5
5. After 2-3 minutes add garlic, ginger, green chili paste, chopped tomato, ground coriander, red chili, salt, coconut paste, and a splash of water
Step 6
6. Add the shrimp to the saucepan and remove from heat
Step 7
7. It a large pot, drizzle cooking oil, temper the shah jeera along with bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and cloves until fragrant
Step 8
8. Add sliced onion, rice that has been soaked for 30 minutes, ginger, hot water, and salt
Step 9
9. Cook for 6-7 minutes on high heat and stir occasionally
Step 10
10. Cook for another 10 minutes on low heat with a lid on
Step 11
11. Add fried onions, shrimps, ghee, green chilies, optional food coloring, freshly chopped coriander leaves, and garam masala
Step 12
12. Cook for 10 more minutes on low heat with the lid on
