Instructions

Step 1
Chop onion, tomato, garlic, green chilli, ginger and cilantro

Step 2
Wash 1 cup arhar/toor dal and pressure cook it for 2 whistles on medium heat with 3 cups of water, chopped tomatoes and turmeric

In a small pan add oil, cumin seeds, dry red chilli and bay leaves

Add ginger, garlic and onion and mix well
Step 5
Add salt, turmeric, garam masala and red chilli powder and saute

Add it to the dal. Add water according to the consistency needed. And garnish with cilantro
Step 7
Serve with basmati rice
