Picadillo

11 steps
Prep:20minCook:15min
A savory, delicious, fun meal for the whole family. This was my favorite Cuban meal growing up, still is. My Abuela made it and passed it down to the family. I hope this can become as good a meal for your family as it has been for mine.

Instructions

Step 1
Open ground beef and put into a big mixing bowl. For a healthier option, I get the 93% lean and 7% fat ground beef
Step 2
Chop and dice the onion, garlic cloves, and bell pepper, and add to mixing bowl. I use a chopper to make it go quicker.
Step 3
Drain and dice up olives and add to mixing bowl
Step 4
Use half the capers from the jar and drain, then add to mixing bowl
Step 5
Chop up 1 cup of fresh cilantro and add to the bowl. Or, add 3 tbsp of dried cilantro.
Step 6
Add in the oregano, white vinegar, water, salt, and bay leaves.
Step 7
Open the can of tomato paste and put in a separate bowl. Slowly add water and mix until paste turns into a tomato sauce. Add sauce to mixing bowl.
Step 8
Mix all ingredients together until well combined. I use my hands with gloves on, but you can use a spoon or spatula as well.
Step 9
Put mixture into pan and cook on med/high until liquid is almost completely evaporated.
Step 10
If you want to save this for a quick to make dinner: Follow steps 1-8. Keep in a tight closed container and store in fridge overnight or throughout the day. I usually prep the night before so it's easy to just throw in the pan and cook quickly for dinner the next day.
Step 11
Serve with scoop chips or over rice. The scoop chips are a big hit with my toddler.
