Meatball and Peas Tagine - Tagine Jelbana

This delicious one pot meal is one my favorites. A classic Algerian dish with robust flavorful meatballs, peas and potatoes. It is so simple yet so satisfying and wholesome. This will definitely make it to your dinner rotations and is always a great idea to make for guests! Kids and adults alike love this dish for its simple yet complex flavor.

Instructions

Step 1
In a blender, mix onion, tomato paste, parsley, cilantro, and garlic until liquid (some small chunks are ok)

Step 2
Pour the blend into a bowl with the ground meat, spices, egg and breadcrumbs. Mix well together.

Step 3
Shape the meat into small 1 inch meatballs.
Step 4
In a deep pot with a lid, or a Tagine pot if you have one, place onions, the meatballs, diced potatoes, spices, and top with peas in that order.

Step 5
Add 1.5 cups of water to the pot. It should just barely cover the meatballs.

Cover the pot and bring to a simmer. Once the meatballs hold their shape (about 10 minutes simmering on medium heat), mix the ingredients around in the pot and place the cover back on.
Step 7
Let it simmer on medium low for 15 minutes until the peas and potatoes are soft.
Step 8
Serve hot anys enjoy with some fresh bread of choice (the sauce is so amazing to dip bread into 🤤)
