1.5 poundslean ground beef
1 cupmilk
1 tablespoonworcestershire sauce
1 teaspoonfresh sage leaves
chopped, or 1/4 teaspoon dried
½ teaspoonsalt
½ teaspoonground mustard
¼ teaspoonpepper
1 clovegarlic
finely chopped, or 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1egg
large
3slices bread
torn into small pieces, or 1/2 cup bread crumbs or 3/4 cup quick oats
¼ cuponion
small, chopped
½ cupketchup
chili sauce or barbecue sauce
Instructions
Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees
Step 2
Mix all ingredients together except ketchup. Spread mixture in ungreased loaf pan, 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 or 9x5x3 inches, or shape into a 9x5 inch loaf in a 9x13 ungreased rectangular pan. Spread ketchup over top.
Step 3
Insert meat thermometer so tip is in center of loaf. Bake uncovered 1 to 1 1/4 hours until meat thermometer reads 160 (170 if using ground pork)
Step 4
Let stand 5 minutes, remove from pan.
