Instructions

Step 1
Grease the interior of the slow cooker crock with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2
If you have time, brown the ground beef and onion in a skillet.
Step 3
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the meat and onion to the prepared crock.
Step 4
Discard the drippings.
Step 5
NOTE: If you don't have time to brown the beef, crumble the beef straight into the crock.
Step 6
Stir in the onion, using a spoon to further break up the beef.
Step 7
In a separate bowl, combine the water and cream of tartar.
Step 8
Toss the sliced potatoes in the water.
Step 9
Drain.
Step 10
(This keeps the potatoes from turning brown during their slow cooking.)
Step 11
In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, pepper, and half of the Cheddar.
Step 12
Layer all of the corn into the crock on top of the meat and onion.

Top that with the drained potato slices.
Step 14
Sprinkle the flour-cheese mixture over the potatoes

Dot the top with butter.
Step 16
Spoon the soup over all the ingredients in the crock.

Cover .

Cook on Low 5 to 6 hours or on High 3 to 4 hours, or until the potatoes are tender.
Step 19
Thirty minutes before the end of the cooking time, sprinkle the remaining Cheddar over the top of the Shepherd's Pie.
Step 20
Dig deep when you serve so that everyone gets all of the layers.
