Instructions

Prepping (40)

Step 1
1. Cut and dice the onion, shallot and garlic into small pieces. For the garlic, use very sharp knife and make as small cut/shave as possible so that the garlic literally melt in your mouth.

2. Cut the mushroom into small bite size chunk.
Step 3
3. Cut off the top and bottom of individual Hot Dogs from the bag of Hot Dog Sausage, saving only the middle for the construction of the Zaku tubing.

4. Peel and using a sharp knife with assistant of model kit building tools such as scriber to carve out the Zaku’s Commander Antenna shaped Carrot piece. Try experimenting with various size, shape and method for the most unique looking Commander Antenna.
Step 5
5. Crack 3 eggs into the bowl and mix in their seasoning as listed in the ingredient list and give everything a strong mix until the sugar and cornstarch completely dissolve into the egg and creating a creamy and soft texture.
Step 6
6. In a glass jar, pour in a mixture consisting of Ketchup, Siracha sauce and Sweet and Sour sauce and give everything a mix. Optionally, you can add in 1 drop of Red food coloring and a dash of Paprika powder. Close and seal the glass lid and store this mixture in the fridge. We will call this the Zaku Red Sauce.

Prepping the rice (10 min)

Step 7
Rinse and cook the rice in the rice cooker for 30 mins. Once it is cooked, store it in a bowl or separate container and set it aside in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours. Doing this way guarantee the best possible left-over rice for fried rice.

Cooking the Fried rice (30 min)

Step 8
1. Hit up the pan with hot vegetable oil and add in the chopped onion, shallot, garlic and mushroom. Fry until they are soft, brown and fragrance.

2. Add to the pan, 1 table spoon each of Lao Gan Ma chili oil and Sambal. Mix them well inside the pan.
Step 10
3. Add in the bacon and mixed vegetable bag. Cook until the bacon is firm and readied.

4. Add in the left-over rice and using a spatula, break down the rice and mix it with the ingredient inside the pan.

5. Season the fried rice with 1 tablespoon each of Soy sauce, Oyster Sauce and Sesame Oil. 2 teaspoon of MSG and a dash of black pepper.
Step 13
6. Add in the Zaku Red Sauce.

7. Give everything a final mix. (Optional for the deeper red color) Add in the shredded beetroot into the pan and mix it well with the rice. Garnish with chopped leek and green onion.

Folded scramble egg (3 mins)

Step 15
1. Heat up the pan with hot oil and wait until the pan is hot enough.
Step 16
2. Pour in the egg mix and watch as the egg rapidly expand.
Step 17
3. Lower down the heat and gently fold the egg while keeping it shape. You do not want to completely cook and solidify the egg, make sure that it is as runny as possible while safe to eat.

Prepping Externals (you can skip this if you have opted out hotdogs and the carrots) (15 mins)

Step 19
1. Deep fry the carved carrot pieces and set them aside.

2. Boil the hot dog sausage in hot water and cook them for 5 to 10 minutes. Transfer them to a plate with towel place underneath to absorb the liquid.

3. Cut out thin strips from the Nori Seaweed sheet with a scissor to create the black part of the Zaku’s head.

Assembly (10)

Step 22
1. Put the plate with the scramble egg in the center of your cutting board/cooking corner

2. Flip over the fried rice bowl in the middle of the egg plate to create the initial Zaku’s head shape.

3. Set the cooked sausage around the head but do not create a full circle to form the tubing.

4. Using left over fried rice from the pan and with cooking gloves equipped, shape out the Zaku’s mouth piece and tubing container at the front and back of the head.

5. Hollow out the top of the head and insert the Commander Antenna (Carrot). Fill in the gap with more left-over fried rice to make sure the Antenna is not loose.

6. Add in the cut Nori seaweed in the front to create the black area for the Zaku’s Mono eye.

7. Using Ketchup or the Zaku Red Sauce, paint a circle in the middle of the seaweed to create the Zaku’s Mono eye

8. Admire the Zaku Fried Rice, take some pictures and serve
