Migrateful Dhal

This simple and nutritious dahl is brought to life with Noor’s spicing. It works really well served with basmati rice. All of the spices including the achar gosht masala mix and the black cardamom can be found in Asian stores or in the World Food section of any large supermarkets. Serve the dahl with basmati rice, chappati or on its own.

Ingredients

Spices
1 tspground turmeric
1 tspred chilli powder
1 tspcumin seeds
4whole cloves
2bay leaves
6whole peppercorns
6green cardamom pods
2black cardamom pods
4stock cubes
chicken or vegetable
3green chillies
1cinnamon stick

Instructions
Step 1
1. In a large pan combine the lentils and 750ml cold water and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, add all of the spices.
Step 2
2. Simmer lentils until all of the water has been absorbed and the mixture forms a thick paste (around 25 minutes).
Step 3
3. While the lentils are simmering, heat the oil in large frying pan.
Step 4
4. Add the onions, cook over a medium heat until browned. Add garlic and ginger and continue cooking until brown (around 10 minutes). Once browned add the mixture to the lentils
Step 5
5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for a further 5 minutes.
Step 6
6. Serve with fresh coriander on top.
