2 cupsToor Dal
Cooked
1tomato
medium, diced
1red onion
medium, diced
2cloves garlic
crushed
0.5 inchginger
1 Tbsptamarind paste
1 Tbspjaggery
cilantro
for garnishing
1 Tbspoil
1 tspmustard seeds
1 tspfenugreek seeds
½ tspturmeric powder
1 tspchilli powder
1 cupwheat flour
¼ cupchickpea flour
½ tspajwain
1 Tbspoil
½ cupwater
½ tspsalt
1 tspghee
1 Tbspgoda masala
Instructions
Step 1
cook the toor dal and while it cooks, chop tomato, onion, ginger and cilantro. Crush the garlic cloves. In a mixing bowl, mix the wheat flour, chickpea flour, ajwain, salt, oil and water and knead the dough. Once daal is cooked, in a pan take 1 tbsp oil, and temper it with mustard and fenugreek seeds, turmeric powder and hing. Then add the crushed garlic and saute until the garlicky smell neutralizes. Then add the onions suate until pink and add tomatoes. add 1/3rd cup water and bring this mixture to a boil so as to let the tomatoes cook. Then add the cooked toor dal, salt, jaggery and chili powder and bring it to a nice boil. Reduce the stove flame to low. in the meantime make lime sized balls of the kneaded dough and roll out to make a roti & cut it into small diamond shapes and add these to the boiling daal. Roll out the dough balls one by one until done. once these sliced dough cooks in the boling mixture, they will float atop. Garnish with fresh cilantro, and add a dash of ghee before serving
