Step 1
Simmer the tomatoes in the water for 10 minutes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon.
Step 2
While this is happening, fry the onion in the oil until it has softened, for about five minutes
Step 3
Add the onion to the tomatoes.
Step 4
Mix the flour to a paste with a little of liquid, and then add this to the tomatoes.
Step 5
Add all the remaining ingredients and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
Step 6
Strain the mixture through a sieve, forcing it through with the back of a spoon, then reheat it and pour into buttered bowls to serve.
