Mom’s Chili Recipe

This is the chili recipe I grew up eating. Thick and hearty with a little spiciness depending on your taste.

Instructions

Step 1
Prep your onions, celery and peppers by dicing them before you begin.
Step 2
Start by cooking the onions and celery for 5-10 minutes on medium heat.
Step 3
Then add the ground beef and turn up the heat to medium high. Cook until browned all the way through. Then drain off any excess fat.
Step 4
Once the beef is brown add your crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and juice from chili beans (not the beans yet).
Step 5
Then add your seasonings. Salt, pepper, paprika, ground red pepper and chili powder.
Step 6
Next in add your diced peppers. Bring to a boil then turn the heat low and let it all simmer together for about 20 minutes.
Step 7
Last you will rinse the kidney beans, then add them along with the chili beans last. Let it all simmer on low heat for about another 15-20 minutes.
