Instructions

Step 1
Heat oil on medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry for a few seconds
Step 2
Add the onion and asafetida and cook for three minutes
Step 3
Add the chickpea flour and cook until fragrant
Step 4
Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the ginger, garlic and green chile turmeric, coriander and cayenne with 3 tbs of water. Add the mixture to the pan and fry for 1 minute.
Step 5
Add the brown chickpeas with water, close the lid and cook for 20 minutes. When cooking with dry beans, add 3.5 cups of water.
Step 6
Add the tomato, salt and garam masala. Cook over medium heat uncovered for 15 minutes. When cooking with soaked beans cook until soft, around 30 minutes.
Step 7
Add lemon to taste and serve with rice or bread.
