Instructions

Step 1
Wash lentils 4-5 times. Soak in the same vessel you into to cook with for 4 more hours in 4 cups of water
Step 2
Add turmeric and bring to a boil, then drop to a low flame and simmer for 25 minutes. Stirring every 10 minutes
Step 3
In the meantime blend the coconut flakes, milk, shallots and spices together to make the spice paste
Step 4
Add the spice paste to the lentils and continue simmering for 8 more minutes
Step 5
For the tarka, sautée the spices and shallots for 5 minutes before adding to the lentils and simmer for another 5 minutes
Step 6
Adjust for salt
