Instructions

Step 1
Dice up enough onions for the dish

Fry until golden brown
Step 3
Add turmeric, mix well. Saute for a minute and add ginger garlic paste and do the same.

Let it all cook for a few minutes. Meanwhile, dice your tomatoes and keep them ready.

Add tomatoes as needed (depending on amount of dal)

Add salt, mix well and place lid on medium flame

Once tomatoes are soft, Add chili, coriander and sambar powder and mix well

Add a little water and place lid again for 5 mins

After 5 mins (should be paste) taste to adjust spice level

Add dal

Roast on med to high flame but MIX CONSTANTLY you'll start to see difference, roast for 5 minutes on medium flame (high flame roast for 3 min with constant mixing)

For 1 cup dal add 4 cups water

Place at medium flame to let it cook for about 20-30 mins (longer it cooks the softer the dal will be)
Step 14
Once it cooked, increase the flame to get rid of excess water from the pot to get a thick consistency. Adjust any salt or spice levels. Add fresh coriander for garnish and it will be ready to eat.
