Step 1
Butter the bread on one side and set aside. Cut a banana in half, the cut into thirds lengthwise.
Step 2
On the side with no butter, place a slice of cheese, then the bananas next. Add another slice of cheese on top of the banana, then top with the other slice of bread. The buttered sides should be on the outside.
Step 3
In a pan, cook the grilled cheese on low heat until both pieces of bread are toasted golden brown, and the cheese is melted inside.
Step 4
In a small pot or pan, cook the sugar and water until it makes an amber syrup.
Step 5
Pour the syrup on top of the grilled cheese and quickly spread it evenly. Let it sit for 2 minutes for the syrup to set. Serve warm.
